Elevate any savory meal with this delicious Filipino citrus flavor.

You'll need...

  • 3 tbsp kalamansi juice, or 2 packets Manila Gold Pure Kalamansi

  • 1 tbsp water

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

  • Optional: 1 tbsp Coconut Secret (Coconut Aminos Soy-Free Seasoning Sauce)

  • A microwave-safe container

  • A mixing utensil of your choice - spoon, fork, whisk, whatever!

Directions

  1. Using a microwave-safe container, microwave butter in 15-second increments until fully melted.

  2. Using a small spoon, mix all remaining ingredients into the melted butter until thoroughly combined.

  3. Enjoy with anything that calls for a citrusy butter: chicken wings, fried fish, roasted veggies, steak, and more.

Chef Chie's Notes

Kalamansi is the traditional Tagalog spelling of Calamansi, a small, round citrus fruit native to the Philippines that is used widely in Filipino and Southeast Asian cuisine.

This kalamansi butter sauce is best enjoyed fresh. This is the last step in our meal preparation, often made while the family is already sitting at the table. This recipe is good for one person, but can be doubled, tripled or quadrupled depending on party size. Make sure to microwave your butter into 15-second increments so it doesn't explode.

Chie recommends repurposing a thoroughly washed BPA-free vessel for your homemade kalamansi butter, whether that be a mason jar, Bonne Maman jar, or a glass Pyrex container.

A wordplay meme with Calamansi, a Filipino citrus fruit. Instead of Calamansi it says cawnamankasi, which is an alternative spelling to "ikaw naman kasi." This translates to "It's you, after all," implying that the receiver is the reason for something that has happened, whether it's good or bad.
